Sanity Amidst Insanity
I heard someone make this statement the other day: “The world has officially gone insane.” It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize the truth behind this notion. However, as Christ-followers we have an escape amidst the insanity. His Name is Jesus.
Are you weighed down by what’s going on around you? Take a deep breath, exhale, and rest in Jesus because He is the only path to true sanity and normalcy amidst the insane and abnormal. With that said, here are a few God given reminders meant to renew your mind in the Truth right now where you are today.
Reminder #1- This world is not your home: Believer, we are reminded of this truth over and over in the Word. Nevertheless, how quickly we forget as we let a chaotic world overpower us like a Mike Tyson jab to the jaw. Are you so stressed by what’s going on in D.C. that you are completely neglecting J.C.?
Jesus says in John 15:19, “If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world . . .” We are in this world but not of it. However, this is not an excuse for believers to be so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good. We are in this world not for ourselves but instead to tell the world in Whom they can find sanity in. His Name is Jesus.
Reminder #2- He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world: One of Jesus’ closest friends, John, via the inspiration of the Holy Spirit penned these magnificent words in 1 John 4:4. We have victory not on our own but by HIS Presence! The Spirit of the Living God lives inside of you! Believer, this truth should make you jump out of your socks for joy no matter what’s surrounding you!
Paul reminds the church at Corinth, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? (1 Cor. 3:16).” Perhaps you need that reminder today as well. Jesus is the Name above all names and in His presence is victory!
Reminder #3- Your future is certain: The Lord has already told us what to expect, yet, we still get so panicked at the temporary situations around us. Revelation 21:4 asserts, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Jesus never said things would be easy in this world. Any “Christianity” that sells you on the lie that giving your life to Christ equals the elimination of all life’s troubles while you get everything you want from some heavenly slot machine isn’t Biblical. It’s actually some kind of disgusting mixture of an “American Dream Christianity,” which has ravaged and deceived multitudes. Listen to Jesus in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
If you have a genuine, personal relationship with Jesus then you have Christ Himself! He is enough. His presence is all you need. Got it, believer?! Furthermore, Jesus said these comforting Words to His disciples in John 14:18 which are also applicable to us, “I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you.”
So, believer, will you be found cowering in the corner, pounded by the shifting sands of this world? Or, will you be found standing firm upon the sure foundation of the Rock? Again, His Name is Jesus.
In Christ,
